On the fringe of the Bedford Park Conservation Area, permission was secured for a new build house with the optimal proportions and scale rarely achievable with London refurbishments. Once the site was cleared (with the exception of a nuclear bunker) a basement could be constructed efficiently using piled retaining walls. Unbroken spans of up to 11m offer the media room and living-dining space an unparalleled feeling of space, and full-height openings with pocket sliding windows onto the garden make for a seamless transition.
The interiors are a characterful reflection of the clients’ personalities and heritage, timeless and tactile materials are combined with bold colours in places, carefully selected furniture and statement artwork.
